After tip-toeing quietly into my daughter’s bedroom last night to check that the Tooth-Fairy had done her job correctly (first tooth, big deal), I thought about the innocent excitement that so beautifully danced on my little girl’s face as she had said good night a few hours earlier.
For sure, expecting a fairy to squeeze under our door on a special mission to trade a tooth for a coin is worthy of excitement. But more than that, my daughter carried the joyful confidence of someone who feels chosen. Called. Finally, it was her turn.
Isn’t it innate in all of us to long to feel chosen, appointed for a significant cause or moment? To feel that it’s our turn to shine?
I feel this way every day, because I’m doing work that I believe I was born to do.
Of course there’s a long way to go and so much more to learn, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that what I am doing now is more than just a job to fill the hours and earn my keep – it is work that I believe in, and that aligns with my deepest convictions and values.
Can you say the same? Is your childhood thirst to live a meaningful and adventurous life satisfied? And if not, what help do you need to make this your reality? I’d love to read your answers in the comments.
